William Charles Wentworth purchased the Windermere Estate from Thomas White Melville Winder in 1836. A boiling down facility for the manufacture of tallow was built at Windermere in the depression of the 1840s. Extensive vineyards were also planted at Windermere. The Windermere Estate was advertised in 1848 to be let in small lots, with or without the Windermere House. Later, in 1851 it was purchased by Charles Nott.
